It seems everyone in the custom bike world is coming out with a short film, some are good and some suck – this is one of the good ones, not just good, its brilliant! It follows the stories of 3 builders from Portland, Oregon (which is an awesome city that I was lucky enough to visit earlier this year…). The film is a great look at some interesting guys doing cool things with custom bikes, the thread for me that ties them all together is the love of riding and the importance of building a bike with a purpose, a bike that has been built to be ridden. Be sure to check out the website for this film as well – very slick and will no doubt see you watching the film all over again!
Great behind the scenes video from the KTM factory. If you have an interest in the technology that goes into these bikes then you will love this video.
This sport is crazy, looks way more scary that normal speedway! This video from RedBull is great, even has subtitles in english.
This short film just makes me want to go and ride…
This is a fantastic documentary from Vice about the 2009 season of the Red Bull Rookies Cup. Its interesting to watch what these kids (some as young as 13 years old) go through and how the parents deal with the whole thing. As it follows the 2009 series many of the riders in this group are now racing in Moto3, interestingly only 1 of the top guys from this series seems to have made it. The entire documentary runs for a couple of hours so grab a beer and relax, its worth a watch.
This video goes to show that you don’t need a big shed to create some amazing things. I love the fact that each engine is built one at a time, truly handbuilt with not a production line in sight.
I have posted quite a few videos recently of the Isle of Man TT but this most recent documentary would have to be the best. Its a brilliant insight into the TT and goes some way to conveying what it must be like to take on the mountain circuit for the first time – mind blowing stuff.
Watch this incredible video and you will understand why Casey Stoner is such a legend, laying a black line on the ripple strip through one of the fastest corners at Phillip Island. Casey, we will miss you…
Guy Coulon is the technical genius behind much of the Tech3 MotoGP team. He is currently Andrea Dovisioso’s crew chief and has been the mastermind behind the Tech3 Moto2 bike. So what does a guy with all these skills do in his spare time? He builds a 300cc 6 cylinder one off prototype race bike! Details and pictures for that matter are a bit scarce but the basics are;
Watercooled engine built from 2 CBR250 motors, all highly modified of course, custom machined cylinders, crank cases, crankshaft, gearbox…the list goes on I am sure.
60hp at 22,000rpm, the sound of this bike is truly magnificent – I propose a rule change to Moto3, ditch the single cylinder rule and enforce a 6 cylinder rule! Seriously though this bike is a work of art, watch the video below for a taste of the incredible exhaust note.
Its without a doubt that Red Bull are the major sponsors behind almost all of the great extreme sports events right around the world. What is even better is that they have a habit of releasing incredible video coverage of these event online and avialbe to view for free (admitidelt there are a few ad’s here and there but its still free!). Two recent video that I thinka re particularly amazing are the coverage of the 2012 Hare Scramble and the 2012 Romaniacs extreme enduro races. These enduro’s are rated as some of the toughtest off road events in the world, sure races like the Dakar are maybe even more extreme but the terrain in these Enduro’s is so tough that only the best riders in the world make it through. Looking for some inspiration to get off the couch and go ride a dirt bike…just watch these videos!
